Many people who wander down Lady Bank on their way to the castle or park will wonder what is behind the green door they see on their right. Behind the historic listed wall lies Tamworth Castle Bowls Club.

The club itself has been in existence for over 200 years with the first records being in 1814. It has many well known past members including Sir Robert Peel MP and Captain Townshend, the first Mayor of Tamworth.

Originally belonging to the Townshend family, the members of the Club bought the green in 1977 for the grand sum of £4,000. With the help of a professional green keeper the club began the journey to become one of the best Crown Green Bowling surfaces in the region.

Playing bowls offers numerous physical, mental and social benefits, making it an excellent activity for individuals of all ages and fitness levels. The club welcomes new members of any age and has smaller bowls available for younger members. If you are interested, please come along, have a roll up with us and see for yourself.

The club has an open day on Saturday 11th April with bar, burgers and hot dogs so if you fancy giving the game a try, why not come along. Alternatively, there are members there most days from late March until late September to chat to. Alternatively, contacts can be found on the website www.tamworthcastlebowls.co.uk
