OK, Midlands football fans – where are your team at currently as we enter the final straight of the season and what can you realistically hope for – take a look at our club guide and predictions for glory and heartbreak!
ASTON VILLA – Following a disappointing and shambolic summer transfer window, most fans did not expect the club to be clear third in the Premier League at this stage with eyes firmly fixed upon Champions League qualification.
Unai Emery’s men have faltered a little of-late, but seem able to pull out results when required and keep themselves comfortably placed in the all-important top-5.
This should see the club finish with CL qualification and we are also predicting a Europa League Final to end the season!
BIRMINGHAM CITY – A little inconsistency has hampered ‘The Blues’ drive towards the Championship play-off spots this season, but a recent upturn of results has left the men from St Andrews only two points away from the vital top-6. Having just taken Premier League Leeds United to penalties in the FA Cup, Blues fans will again be confident of the club achieving that play-off spot.
We are predicting success for Birmingham in their top-6 quest and a play-off final to finish the season.
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS – There is not a lot to say about the boys from Molineux. Relegation has been a probability for some time now and with an 18 point gap to the safety of 17th place we are confidently predicting that Wolves will be playing Championship football next season.
A recent run of better performances haven’t changed the clubs fortunes, but does maybe provide the beginnings of a platform from which Rob Edwards can lead a promotion push in 2027.
WEST BROMWICH ALBION – Albion find themselves only 2 points ahead of relegation as I write this article, and recent results and performances do not offer too much optimism at the Hawthorns.
Having made the decision to remove manager Ryan Mason in January, fans of The Baggies will be hoping newly appointed coach, Eric Ramsey can deliver enough points to see the club survive the drop.
Previously the youngest ever coach in the USA’s MLS, Ramsey is a relative unknown in coaching terms but the board at Albion believe he has the skill-set needed to inspire much improved results.
We are predicting Ramsey will keep West Brom in the Championship and Baggies fans will enjoy their summer holidays!
And briefly….
COVENTRY CITY – Promotion for Frank Lampard’s men is predicted. They have been the best side in the Championship by some distance this season and anything else will be catastrophic for The Sky Blues.
WALSALL – A very worrying drop-off from the Sadlers has seen them drop out of the play-off spots. However, we are predicting a top-6 finish.
TAMWORTH – A solid, mid-table finish for Andy Peaks men is predicted, and credit to everyone at the club for another solid season!
