With more and more luggage restrictions here are our tips for the holidays!

Packing efficiently for a summer holiday can be a challenge, especially if you’re trying to avoid excess baggage fees or simply want to travel light. With smart packing strategies, you can maximise space in your suitcase while ensuring you have everything you need. Here are some expert tips to help you pack smarter for your next summer getaway.
1. Roll, Don’t Fold
Rolling clothes instead of folding them saves space and minimises wrinkles. This technique works especially well for lightweight summer fabrics like cotton, linen, and jersey. For bulkier items, such as jeans or jackets, try folding them in half before rolling to keep them compact.
2. Use Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a game-changer for organisation and space efficiency. They compress clothing, keep items neatly separated, and make unpacking a breeze. Choose lightweight, breathable cubes to optimise suitcase space.
3. Wear Your Bulkiest Items
If you’re travelling with heavier shoes, a jacket, or a hat, wear them on the plane or in the car instead of packing them. This frees up valuable luggage space for other essentials.
4. Choose Versatile Clothing
Opt for mix-and-match outfits in neutral colours that can be dressed up or down. Lightweight layers, such as a scarf or cardigan, can serve multiple purposes while taking up minimal space.
5. Limit Shoes
Shoes take up a lot of room, so stick to two or three versatile pairs, one for walking, one for the beach, and one dressier option if needed. Wear the bulkiest pair during travel.
6. Use Travel-Sized Toiletries
Instead of packing full-sized bottles, transfer liquids into travel-sized containers or use solid alternatives (like shampoo bars). Many hotels also provide basic toiletries, so check before packing duplicates.
7. Fill Empty Spaces
Stuff socks, underwear, or small accessories inside shoes or gaps between clothes to maximise every inch of space.
8. Pack Multi-Purpose Items
A sarong can double as a beach cover-up, towel, scarf, wrap if things turn chilly or knotted into a shopping tote. A crossbody bag can serve as both a day bag and an evening purse.
9. Avoid Overpacking “Just in Case” Items
Be realistic about what you’ll actually use. Most destinations have shops if you forget something essential.
10. Use a Compression Bag for Bulkier Items
If you must pack a jacket or thick towel, compression bags can shrink them down significantly.
