Sporting Opinions!

This month I’ve decided to look at a few upcoming sporting moments and try to predict what the summer will deliver – along with a couple of personal opinions around current questions being asked. 

Istanbull-Ring!

By the time you are reading this, we will know whether Sir Unai Emery has been able to deliver Aston Villa’s first European trophy for 44 years, and first trophy of any description since 1996.

Thousands of Villa fans are heading to Istanbull-Ring (see what I did there!) to witness what they hope will be a glorious end to a season which has already confirmed Champions League football for the club next season.

Will Villa win it? – Yes! And will do so, comfortably!

By the way – I see/hear a lot of Villans demanding statues outside Villa Park for Unai Emery and Captain John McGinn should they secure the Europa League trophy – whereas I’m not against the idea, surely statues of Dennis Mortimer and Ron Saunders should proceed these?

Is the Midlands Football Power-Base Shifting?

Blues and Villa fans will know exactly what this question refers to – and let’s just say there is no sign currently of the power-base moving even slightly towards South Birmingham and it doesn’t look likely in the next few years!

Is Formula 1 Still Watchable?

Max Verstappen’s recent comments, denigrating Formula 1’s latest move towards even more hybrid engines, where races are decided, not upon just the skill and courage of the driver, but how smart they are at ‘conserving’ battery power on each lap, has received much criticism with the general opinion being that it is sour-grapes due to his failing away at the start of this season.

Is he right? – YES! Formula 1 are surely, bitterly regretting their latest rule and engine changes.  Race fans do not want to see races decided by ‘energy conservation’.  Let’s get back to racing, where real racers like Verstappen and before him, the likes of Senna, Mansell, Schumacher and Hunt thrived.

Personally, I long for that bygone era of excruciatingly loud and powerful V8 engines – the beautiful sound these bad-boys made was simply gorgeous!

Should England have stuck with McCullum? 

England Crickets disastrous Ashes series in Australia had many media pundits calling for the head of Coach, Brendan McCullum.

It looked like tour discipline was a shambles from start to finish and many people within the game believe New-Zealander, McCullum should have paid the price.

Should he have been sacked? – YES! There is simply no excuse for the lack of preparation we saw before the tour and the ‘partying’ that England players appeared to engage in during the tour.

Whereas a few beers whilst away on tour is not a major problem; the sight of clearly ‘smashed’ England cricketers staggering around in the middle of an embarrassing series defeat is unforgivable!

To survive the summer, McCullum must oversee comfortable home series victory’s against New Zealand and Pakistan!
