Fabulous February entertainment for cosy nights in!

TV: Dispatches from Elsewhere (ITVx 12th February)

Follow four ordinary Philadelphians: Peter, Simone, Janice, and Fredwynn, who feel something is missing in their lives and stumble upon a mysterious, immersive puzzle hidden within everyday reality, orchestrated by the enigmatic Jejune Institute, leading them to discover a world of wonder and deeper personal truths. Created by and starring Jason Segel, the show blends sci-fi, drama, and whimsy as these strangers follow clues, interact with strange characters (like dancing Bigfoots), and confront their own anxieties and desires, exploring themes of connection, purpose, and the magic behind the mundane

Film: Splitsville (dir. Michael Angelo Covino, in cinemas 20th February)

Splitsville is a darkly comedic drama that follows the fraying relationships of two couples. Carey and Ashley’s strained marriage hits a breaking point when, after witnessing a fatal car crash, Ashley confesses to an affair and requests a divorce. A devastated Carey flees to the coastal home of his best friend, Paul, and Paul’s wife, Julie, seeking solace.

The film hilariously navigates the ensuing emotional chaos, exploring themes of jealousy, insecurity, and the messy, often contradictory ways people seek intimacy and revenge. All four adults find themselves entangled in a complex web of their own making, leading to confrontations that force them to question what they truly want from their relationships and whether the bonds they have can ever be repaired.

Music: Iron & Wine: Hen’s Teeth (SubPop, from 27th February)

Iron & Wine presents ‘Hen’s Teeth’, the earthy, “impossible” sibling album to the airy ‘Light Verse’. Recorded as a spontaneous gift with close collaborators, it explores deep physical intimacy through a richer, jazz and folk-infused sound, evoking the spirit of Van Morrison’s ‘Astral Weeks’ with subtle Brazilian Tropicalia touches.

The record is significantly shaped by powerful collaborations, most notably with the acclaimed trio I’m With Her (Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, Sara Watkins). A uniquely personal poignancy is added by the debut harmony vocals of Beam’s daughter, Arden. Lyrically, it delves into themes of profound connection and merging with a partner, as heard on the lead single ‘In Your Ocean.’

Set for release on 27 February 2026 via Sub Pop, ‘Hen’s Teeth’ offers a more complex and tactile counterpoint to its predecessor, delivering directly emotional songs that solidify Sam Beam’s mastery of intricate musicianship and lyrical depth.
