TV: Brothers (Apple TV from 23rd September)
A new comedy, reuniting Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson for the first time since True Detective. The duo star as fictionalised versions of themselves with a delightfully absurd plot. After Harrelson's daughter's wedding falls apart, he moves his family to McConaughey's Texas ranch for a healing getaway. Chaos ensues when McConaughey's mother (Holland Taylor) accidentally reveals a decades-old secret — they might actually be brothers. As Harrelson obsessively digs for the truth, McConaughey juggles his own crisis: a potential run for Governor of Texas. The premise is inspired by real-life rumours that the two might be half-brothers. Created by Lee Eisenberg (The Office), the show promises a heartfelt, chaotic comedy about friendship, family, and fame.
Film: The Death of Robin Hood (cinemas from 4th September)
A24 is set to release The Death of Robin Hood in UK cinemas this September, offering a starkly different vision of the legendary outlaw . Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), this is not a swashbuckling adventure but a dark, introspective reimagining that asks what happens when the hero's story reaches its brutal end . Hugh Jackman stars as an ageing, battle-scarred Robin Hood, a man haunted by a past "filled with crime and murder," who finds himself critically injured and in the care of a mysterious woman played by Jodie Comer . The film explores themes of mortality, vengeance, and the slim possibility of redemption, stripping away the myth to reveal a violent, guilt-ridden loner facing the consequences of his actions . With a strong supporting cast, including Bill Skarsgård as Little John, and cinematography shot on 35mm film in Northern Ireland, the film promises a gritty, visceral experience.
Music: Gilla Band ‘Pugnello’ (Rough Trade, from 25th September)
Irish noise-rock quartet Gilla Band have announced their long-awaited fourth album, Pugnello, set for release this month. It marks their first full-length album since 2022's Most Normal.
The album, recorded across three Dublin studios and produced by the band, explores themes of grief and childhood nostalgia. Vocalist Dara Kiely describes new single 'Placeholder' as analysing mental quirks... via outdated pop culture, citing childhood memories of Big Brother and Power Rangers as inspiration. The 10-track LP also includes their May released comeback single 'Giraffe'.
