The British Final of One Act Plays represents the four countries who host the British Final each year and has been taking place since before the war. It was set up to promote fellowship through drama throughout the UK by supporting and developing access to participation in drama. The Friendship Cup – was introduced in 2010 and presented in 2011 by England to Wales and thence to be passed on each year to the next host nation. The final rotates between the four countries and within each country it moves through different areas. This means that the Midlands will only get to host the final every 16 years. We are delighted that our Central Area of England is hosting the event at the Lichfield Garrick on 4th and 5th July.
Tamworth Group Total Arts Community Theatre are heavily involved in the organisation of the event as well as being through to the Semi Finals. However they will be delighted if a Central Area group once again represent England.
The finals will be two nights of dazzling theatre performed by the best Drama groups from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland competing to be crowned British Champions. Drama, comedy and everything in between will be sure to entertain and move audiences of all ages. Two one act plays will be performed each night lasting no more than 55 minutes each giving audiences the chance to see a broad spectrum of styles and genres from classics to the very best in modern theatre and new writing. If you love festivals this is for you, this is your chance to see what an amazing night of theatre it can be.
