Spooky Nights & Fireworks
by Kerry RVN, Bright Side Vets

With Halloween just around the corner and Bonfire Night following closely behind, it's an exciting time of year for us, but not always for our furry friends!
Strange costumes, unexpected visitors and loud fireworks can leave some pets feeling frightened and anxious.
Recognising the signs
Not all pets show anxiety in the same way. Some may tremble, pant, pace or hide, while others become unusually clingy, restless or vocal. Even pets who have previously coped well can develop a fear of fireworks.
Creating a safe space
Give your pet somewhere quiet and cosy to retreat to, with familiar bedding and favourite toys. Close the curtains and pop on the radio or TV to help soften outside noises. Walk dogs before dark, keep cats safely indoors during firework evenings and make sure microchip details are up to date.
Calming products such as Pet Remedy may help some pets feel more settled, while puzzle feeders, lick mats and long lasting chews can provide a welcome distraction.
We're here to help!
If your pet struggles with fireworks or unfamiliar noises, please don't wait until they're frightened to seek advice. Our crew at Bright Side Vets can discuss ways to manage anxiety, including medication where appropriate. A little preparation can make a big difference to your pet's comfort this spooky season!
