Get your summer bulbs started now for an indoor bloom.

Growing summer flower bulbs in glass jars is a creative and low-maintenance way to enjoy vibrant blooms indoors. This method, often referred to as "forcing," works particularly well for bulbs like lilies, gladiolus, amaryllis, allowing you to observe their growth process up close.
Begin by selecting healthy, firm bulbs suited for summer blooming. Pick a glass jar that is tall enough to accommodate the bulb and its root system. Clear jars are ideal, as they let you monitor root development and water levels.
Fill the jar with water, leaving enough space so that only the base of the bulb touches the water. Use pebbles, marbles, or decorative stones to stabilise the bulb and keep it elevated above the water. This prevents rot while allowing roots to grow downward into the water.
Place the jar in a warm, bright location with indirect sunlight. Summer bulbs thrive in warmer temperatures, so avoid overly cool or dark spots. Check the water level regularly, ensuring it stays just below the bulb to maintain proper moisture.
As roots develop and shoots emerge, rotate the jar occasionally to promote even growth. In a few weeks, you’ll see lush foliage and vibrant blooms, transforming your glass jar into a stunning living decoration.
