Unwanted Hichhikers

As the weather warms up and pets spend more time outdoors, parasite season is officially here. Fleas, ticks and worms might be tiny, but they can cause big problems for dogs, cats and rabbits.

External parasites such as fleas, ticks and mites live on your pet’s skin or fur and can cause itching, irritation and discomfort. Internal parasites, including roundworms, tapeworms and lungworm, are harder to spot but can affect your pet’s health if left untreated.

Rabbits can also be at risk of flystrike during warmer weather, a very serious condition that develops quickly and needs urgent treatment.

The tricky thing with parasites is that even the cleanest and most pampered pets can pick them up. A quick roll in the grass, contact with wildlife or a trip to the park can be all it takes.

The good news is that prevention is much easier than treatment. Keeping up to date with regular parasite protection helps keep pets healthy and homes flea free too.

We always recommend speaking to your vet to make sure your pet is protected all year round.

Here at Bright Side Vets, our VIP Care Plan helps make preventative healthcare more affordable and stress free, with parasite treatments included alongside routine health checks and other brilliant benefits.
