As Spring approaches, lets take a look at the state-of-play across a number of sports…..

Football - The first English trophy final of the season saw Newcastle completely dominate league-leading Liverpool to secure the Carabao Cup 2-1 and in truth, the result was never in-doubt as the Geordies collected their first domestic trophy in 70 years!

Aston Villa continue to dominate Midlands football, having reached the quarter-final stages of both The FA Cup and Champions League.  Games against Preston North End and PSG are next up for the Villans, whilst they remain well in-touch with European qualification again in the Premier League.

Birmingham City remain top of League-One and ‘The Blues’ are now chasing a record-breaking points performance as they seek a promotion which has looked as good as done for several months now – the men from St Andrews have also booked themselves a Wembley Cup Final date against Peterborough United in the Veritu Trophy… Good days again for long-suffering Blues fans.

Walsall continue their own push for promotion from League-Two and although they have ‘wobbled’ a little lately, they remain top of the division, still in good shape.

Wolves look to have avoided a very nervous March/April with several good results recently and West Brom remain in the Championship play-offs as they look to join their bitter rivals in the Premier League.  Frank Lampard’s sensational turnaround of Coventry City’s season continues with The Sky-Blues also in the Championship Play-Offs.

Formula 1 has returned - with all eyes on Lewis Hamilton as he fulfils a lifelong ambition by driving for Ferrari, although a disappointing 10th place finish at Melbourne’s season opening race dampened the excitement of seeing the G.O.A.T. of F1 racing for the iconic brand.

Lando Norris took first place from Red Bulls Max Verstappen as the two racers continued their battle of last season, with Mercedes George Russell completing the podium line-up.

The 2025 season promises to be more open than recent years, with a number of drivers looking capable of taking the chequered-flag!

Rugby Union – The 2025 Six-Nations saw a much improved performance from England – the highlight being a record-breaking 68 – 14 victory against Wales in Cardiff as the men from Twickenham finished second to Champions France.

Referee-Watch! –  Howard Webb still need to resign as referee standards and VAR continue to reach new lows!

Tamworth-Watch! More impressive performances and results from Andy Peaks boys… much more of this and The Lambs will be dreaming of promotion to the Football League!
