Founded at the start of the 21st century, Tamworth Heritage Trust continues to pursue it sole aim to establish a much-needed Tamworth Heritage Centre. Not to be confused with a museum, the trustees are aiming to provide a significant space for use as a venue for community groups; to bring a place where the heritage and history of the town and surrounding area can be researched and studied at leisure; and a collection of images and information browsed.
Over almost a quarter of a century we have raised and continue to raise awareness and funds to achieve our aims. In the coming year we will be bringing an assortment of meetings and gatherings. Tamworth has a fascinating past. The town was for centuries straddling two counties; has links with the Saxons, Scandinavians; has a castle; the Moat House; and many important residents including Sir Robert Peel, Rev William McGregor, Thomas Guy, Colin Grazier, John Rawlet, Sir Ernest Titterton, the Marmion family, Appleby Matthews, Samuel Parker, and the Ferrers family, all these and more need to be showcased at our Heritage Centre.
The trust is always looking for new members. For just £10, membership gives updates on the programme of events and allows the individual to mould the future of the trust. Anyone interested can drop us a line via our website: www.tamworthheritagetrust.org.uk or Facebook page.
