Drone Show at Tamworth Castle Marks Broadband Evolution

If you spotted lights in the sky last Wednesday 5th March, it was a celebration of a pivotal moment in history: 25 years since domestic broadband launched in the UK in 2000. While ADSL and dial-up emerged in the 90s, broadband’s arrival revolutionised how we live, work, and connect.
LightSpeed, a leading ultrafast broadband provider, hosted a stunning drone show against the backdrop of Tamworth Castle, a historic landmark dating back to 1070. The event highlighted the contrast between cutting-edge technology and centuries-old history, marking a quarter-century of digital progress.
Brett Shepherd, CEO of LightSpeed, reflected on the occasion: “Broadband has transformed every aspect of our lives, from how we work to how we relax. This is just the beginning—broadband continues to evolve, shaping the future in unimaginable ways.”
As the UK prepares to retire the copper-based PSTN network by 2027, Brett emphasised the importance of future-proofing homes and businesses. “Broadband is now as essential as water or electricity. Faster speeds and greater bandwidth will unlock smarter homes, increased productivity, and immersive digital experiences.”
