TV: Murderbot (premiering May 16th, Apple TV+)

A witty sci-fi thriller starring Alexander Skarsgård as the titular security android - a killing machine secretly yearning for soap operas and purpose. Based on Martha Wells' acclaimed novels, this 10-episode series from the Weitz brothers (About a Boy) follows Murderbot's dangerous mission while it grapples with human connections it claims to despise.

The stellar cast includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, and Sabrina Wu. With Paramount Television Studios producing and Wells consulting, expect a perfect blend of dry humor, action, and existential android drama in this unique adaptation.

Film: The Phoenician Scheme (dir. Wes Anderson. Cinemas from 30th May)

Anderson's 13th film blends espionage thrills with his signature whimsy, featuring an all-star ensemble led by Benicio del Toro as eccentric millionaire Zsa-zsa Korda. Joined by daughter Liesel (Mia Threapleton) and tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera), they navigate a quirky quest encountering Benedict Cumberbatch's hairy Uncle Nubar, Rupert Friend's Excaliber, and Richard Ayoade's freedom fighter. Regular collaborators (Hanks, Johansson, Wright) complete this visually stunning comedy-thriller. Co-written with Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom), promising Anderson's trademark symmetry, deadpan humor, and heartfelt storytelling in his most ambitious caper yet.

Music: Aesop Rock: Black Hole Superette (out 30th May)

Aesop Rock's ‘Black Hole Superette’ crafts a surreal world where mundane moments dissolve into dreamlike introspection. Entirely self-produced, the album showcases his technical mastery—layering intricate beats beneath expansive lyricism that balances cerebral depth with raw emotion. Tracks like the reflective ‘Movie Night and eccentric ‘Send Help’ reveal a mad scientist at work, bending sound and concept beyond convention.

Featuring stellar collaborations (Lupe Fiasco, Armand Hammer, Open Mike Eagle), the project pulses with kinetic energy, blurring lines between complexity and instinct. Aesop’s signature alchemy—transforming the ordinary into the uncanny—reaches new heights here, making ‘Black Hole Superette, one of his most daring and multifaceted albums to date.
