TV: The Great British Bake Off (Channel 4)

Nothing signals the start of a cosy autumn better than settling down to watch ‘The Great British Bake Off’. It’s hard not to love this deliciously chaotic baking battle where amateur bakers nervously sweat over soggy bottoms, collapsing sponges, and Paul Hollywood’s icy stare. Each week, contestants will face three nerve-wracking rounds, trying to impress judges with their Signature Bake, survive the cryptic Technical, and pull off a jaw-dropping Showstopper (or at least something that doesn’t look like a cake crime scene).

Hosted by much loved cheeky presenters who steal cake when no one’s looking, the show is equal parts heartwarming and hilarious, think flour explosions, dramatic custard fails, and the occasional biscuit-based existential crisis. Who will rise? Who will crumble? And most importantly… will anyone remember to turn the oven on?

Music: Sprints, All That Is Over

Dublin band Sprints deliver a raw, cathartic punch with their new album, All That Is Over, a blistering mix of post-punk grit and garage-rock fury. Front woman Karla Chubb snarls through anxiety and defiance with razor-sharp lyrics, while jagged guitars and pummelling rhythms drive home the band’s unrelenting energy.

This second album from Sprints is a powerful and dynamic exploration of contemporary chaos, personal transformation, and the necessity of art and hope amidst a world seemingly "gone mad". The album, written largely in real-time during tour and sound-checks, reflects on global events like the war in Gaza and wildfires in LA, as well as personal experiences of trauma and resilience. It builds on the momentum of their debut, Letter to Self, pushing the band's sound into richer, more nuanced territory while maintaining their signature intensity. Sprints never fail to provide a thrilling, emotionally charged listen. It’s messy, it’s loud, and it’s utterly compelling. Essential for fans of Savages, IDLES, or anyone who likes music with teeth
