Over the last 25 years, the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire has grown from an inspired idea and muddy fields into a flourishing vibrant landscape of Remembrance, reflection and shared stories.

In 2026, the Arboretum will mark 25 years since officially opening to the public. Throughout the year, they’ll be celebrating the stories, milestones, and moments that have shaped their story so far, as they look to the future, with a special programme of exciting exhibitions, events and activities.
The Arboretum will kick off their celebrations with a weekend-long special anniversary event, with two free and unique days of vibrant performances, reflective moments and powerful storytelling which can be experienced by visitors of all ages. Saturday 16 May will be dedicated to honouring the stories of Armed Forces service shared through the memorials around the Arboretum, and Sunday 17 May will see Arboretum partners taking to the stage to celebrate the community formed there over more than 25 years. Across the weekend visitors can expect performances from Black Voices, Sampad, community choirs, military bands, Talent in the Ranks, and Arboretum Poet-In-Residence Arji Manuelpillai.

Throughout the rest of the year, the Arboretum will be marking this milestone anniversary through a series of buggy tours, trails and talks, available daily to visitors until 15 November. Led by their team of knowledgeable volunteers, the tours and talks offer a thoughtful introduction to the Arboretum’s history, and the free outdoor trails allow visitors to explore at their own pace, discovering more about the moments, people and memorials that have shaped the Arboretum’s story.
For those artists out there, this summer the Arboretum is inviting visitors of all ages to discover why art is so important to Remembrance. From 18 July – 30 August, there will be opportunities to shape large scale art installations, discover stories through sound and enjoy specially commissioned performances. Younger visitors will also be able to join creative sessions on Wednesdays each week.
Entry to the Arboretum is free, however they do recommend booking your visit in advance to guarantee entry and save on the daily parking charge. To find out more about the Arboretum’s full programme of events, or to book your next visit, please visit: thenma.org.uk/25years.
