TV:  Girl Taken (Paramount+ from 8th January 2026)

Based on Hollie Overton’s best-selling novel ‘Baby Doll’, a gripping psychological thriller. This series follows a woman’s harrowing escape from captivity and the complex, fractured family she returns to.

Alfie Allen stars as teacher Rick, alongside Jill Halfpenny as Eve, the mother of twin daughters Lily and Abby. Real-life sisters Tallulah and Delphi Evans portray the twins, promising authentic chemistry in a relationship central to the drama. The ensemble cast also features Vikash Bhai, Niamh Walsh, Levi Brown, Victoria Ekanoye, Holly Atkins, and Kiran Krishnakumar, who bring the suspenseful story of trauma, family secrets, and survival to life.

Film:  H is for Hawk (dir. Philippa Lowthorpe, in cinemas 23rd January 2026)

The film tells the true story of a woman who tends to a Goshawk after the death of her father. H is for Hawk is a film adaptation of Helen MacDonald's memoir about grief, where a Cambridge academic (played by Claire Foy) channels her profound loss after her father's sudden death into training a wild, fearsome Goshawk named Mabel, finding an unlikely path to healing and rediscovering life through the demanding, untamed nature of the bird and the ancient art of falconry. The film explores memory, nature, and resilience as Helen confronts her emotions through her intense, transformative journey with the hawk.

Music:  Sleaford Mods: The Demise of Planet X(Rough Trade, out 16th January 2026)

The Demise of Planet X is Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson’s most expansive and ambitious release to date as Sleaford Mods. Boasting the duo’s most varied and expressive musical approach so far, it charts, critiques and satirises our times, while offering a universal cry of anger and release of energy that pushes against the encroaching cultural darkness.

Contemplating the world coming to an end not with a big bang but in slowly rising tide of irritating mundanity, The Demise Of Planet X strikes back with vivid sonics, acerbic words, enveloping atmospheres and a engaging wit across 13 tracks that will move hearts, minds and feet.

The album features a rare guest appearance from former Life Without Buildings frontwoman Sue Tompkins, plus collaborations with Aldous Harding, soul singer Liam Bailey and grime MC Snowy, the latter two both hailing from the band’s hometown of Nottingham. In her first foray into music, actress Gwendoline Christie (Wednesday/ Severance/ Game Of Thrones) also joins Midlands band Big Special on ‘The Good Life’ which is accompanied by a video directed by Ben Wheatley (The Kill List/A Field In England/Bulk).
